Whether you like it or not, Halloween is almost upon us, and you know what that means; sweets, sweets and more sweets. Of course, it also means party time, and party time means carpet stains.
The last thing you want to be worrying about for the next week is how you’re going to get that horrible stain out of the carpet or how much it will cost you to do so. Luckily for you, Donnelly Watson are here to get you out of a scary situation.
The Donnelly Watson Step-by-Step Carpet Stain Removal Guide
Technique No.1 – Scrape & Dab
Ah yes, the old scrape and dab technique. If you’ve just spilt a bowl of something on the floor then take the time to dab away the excess with a towel, or use a spoon or knife to scrape it away. This will generally do most of the job, particularly if you catch the spillage before it has a chance to seep into the carpet or dry up.
Technique No.2 – Rubbing Alcohol
If you have it, applying some ‘rubbing alcohol’ or Ethanol on the stain will tackle a lot of the most difficult to shift Halloween accidents. Be gentle, you don’t want to damage the carpet, and once you are finished, rinse with warm water to remove the Ethanol. Of course, be super duper careful, and do not under ANY circumstances consume the alcohol.
Technique No.3 – Diluted Soap
If you don’t have Ethanol to hand, some diluted washing up liquid should do the trick. Don’t mix it too thick, otherwise the mixture will not flow well when you are rubbing the carpet. One teaspoon to a pint of water should be fine, but feel free to change the mixture based on how well it is working. Gently blot the area with a clean paper towel.
Technique No.4 – Drying Time
Whichever of the above techniques you choose, when you’re finished rinse the area with warm water and blot dry. Don’t leave your carpet wet, it won’t do the quality any good in the long run. Blot it dry gently but thoroughly and don’t be afraid to repeat the process as much as you need to.
Technique No.5 – Call a Carpet Cleaner
Of course, if those Halloween stains are just too scary and horrifying to clear, then it is time to call a carpet cleaner. If any of the above seems to be making the stain worse, then stop and call the carpet cleaner, some stains are just too much for traditional cleaning methods, and a professional will be needed.
Some of the best local carpet cleaners include:
So this Halloween, don’t be afraid to go a little bit crazy, and if you have a spillage, you know that you can fix it.
