Ipswich Regent Theatre

Case Study:Regent Theatre

Despite installing various commercial flooring solutions for many years, It is quite rare to be offered the chance to renovate theatre flooring.

Show Time!

When we learnt about the opportunity to undertake the works at the Ipswich Regent Theatre, to say we were excited would have been an understatement!

The remit was clear; we had to deliver some of the highest quality floor coverings throughout all of the front of house areas, to last for many years. This would need to be delivered in good time prior to the pantomime season before Christmas.  We couldn’t wait to help bring this beautiful building back to life.

Careful co-ordination was required to fit in with the various trades that would be on site, and so we held regular meetings with the main contractor (Mixbrow Limited) to ensure we kept to the plan.

The prerequisite was to supply and fit art deco themed carpets, luxury vinyl tiles, safety floors and polished bronze trims to complete the look.
Procurement was arranged without delay to ensure everything would be on site ready for the various stages of installation, as the other trades cleared their areas.

The most noticeable floor covering was the beautiful Hugh Mackay Axminster carpet, made in a classic pattern which set the tone for this great renovation. Due to the high footfall, the carpet was fitted to the subfloor using the Durafit double stick method, to ensure stability and the highest performance for many years.
The next showpiece was the installation of Amtico Blue Décor Clarence Star mosaic tiles. These provided a stunning finish to the cloakroom areas, whilst also providing a long lasting and easy to clean solution. Once more, the cream and blue tile colours co-ordinated beautifully with the rest of the decor.

We also installed some beautiful Amtico black and white chequerboard tiles in front of the majestic Crush Hall Bar area, with white marble effect tiles to the Lobby Bar surrounds, and finally a solid blue tile to the rejuvenated Hall of Fame Ramp.

As the bar areas were also being refreshed, we provided the most durable and easy to clean cap and cove floor flooring solution using Polyflor Verona, in an attractive but practical midnight blue colour. The floor joins were created using hot welds, to ensure many many years of use.

For the finishing touches, we used some of the finest and most durable polished bronze trims from Gradus to complete the floor transitions, along with some beautifully fitted Marlings bronze stair nosings to the main stairwells.

After many months on site, we were proud to deliver the project on time, and we’re so happy to see how pleased the clients were with our work.

Not only had we delivered upon our promises, but we had also built new relationships for the future.

To be a part of this project was a privilege, especially as this was in our neighbourhood. We thank our team for their work, and the main contractor and Ipswich Borough Council for the award of the contract.

We hope you will be just as excited when you see these floors the next time you are at the next show!
